Correlation And Experimental Research On Micro - Expression Recognition And Emotional Intelligence Of College Students

Micro expression is a very brief and uncontrolled facial expression when people try to suppress or hide their true feelings. Micro expression recognition means when others show a micro expression in the unconscious state and we can accurately recognize and grasp the expression’s special meanings. METT(Micro Expression Training Tool) is a specialized tool for testing and training micro expression recognition ability.Emotional intelligence means an kind of ability for people to monitor themselves and others’ emotions and feelings, and to know and use the information to guide their own thoughts and actions. Sehutte emotional intelligence scale(EIS) is applied widely as emotional intelligence questionnaire measurement.This study uses METT( Micro Expression Training Tool) and Sehutte emotional intelligence(EIS)to test 353 students of a university in Shanghai, and to study the relationship between micro expression recognition ability and emotional intelligence. The result shows that:(1) Micro expression recognition scores and the scores of emotional intelligence and the dimensions were positively correlated significantly.(2) The university students’ scores of micro expression recognition presented normal distribution. The university students’ facial expression recognition accuracy are different, the accuracy of identifying surprise is the highest,and the accuracy of identifying fear is the lowest.(3) There are differences between the micro expression recognition ability of different students. On the micro expression recognition scores, one-child is higher than not one-child, and city is higher than the countryside. Sophomore year is a "low period" of micro expression recognition. On the recognition of disgust, male accuracy is higher than women, and science students is higher than the liberal students.(4) University students’ emotional intelligence is good overall, but different students have different emotional intelligence. City students’ emotional intelligence scores are higher than the countryside students. Art students’ Managing Self Emotions and Emotions Utilization are better than liberal and science students.(5) After METT’s training, the university students’ micro expression recognition accuracy is improved.(6) Micro expression recognition score can predict emotional intelligence score, and Micro expression training can promote emotional intelligence.
