Word-guessing strategy reading skills a very important reading skills. Master word-guessing strategy can improve learners’ reading comprehension. In Chinese reading, students often encounter words. If you encounter a new word to the dictionary, it will be difficult to improve students’ reading levels and reading comprehension. Therefore, the use of Word-guessing strategy to solve the problem of new words in Chinese language reading is essential.In this paper, 31 elementary third grade students from different countries for the survey, questionnaires is to investigate solutions when they encounter a new word in the Chinese Reading used and word-guessing strategy they used. The article also use reading test, interviews and teaching experiment to investigate them if they can use correctly and effectively word-guessing strategy in the absence of dictionary. This can also investigate after teaching, students can better understand whether word-guessing strategy or not and their reading comprehension can be improved or not.Finally, the survey shows that when many students encounter a new word in Chinese reading, the dictionary is the first choice they use to solve the problem of new words. In the absence of the dictionary, they will use word-guessing strategy to ensure the smooth progress of reading. Through two comprehensive reading tests and two teaching experiments was found, after using the word-guessing strategy, students can better grasp the meaning of word-guessing strategy, their reading comprehension ability has been improved. Finally, this paper presents a number of recommendations based on the survey of teaching and reading test results.
