Place name, which is an epitome of the place’s languages, histories, geographical features and cultures, and having the unique regional characteristics and cultural connotation. And street names,which as an indispensable part in place name.In this dissertation, we will focus on the street names teaching in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL). We take Kunming street names as a example to study the usage of words and the cultural meaning of Kunming street names.The dissertation is divided into four parts. At first, we make a summary on place name teaching, it involve the causes of the selection of the subject and research overview, then discuss the significance of street names teaching in TCFL.Secondly, we will explore the measures of Kunming street names. Expository method, picture method, field research method are taken into consideration.Thirdly, we will analyze the content of Kunming street names to explore the social and cultural fields of Kunming street names. On one hand, we will study the feature of the general names, on the another hand, we will research the the social and cultural fields of proper names.Fourthly, we set a example to show how the place name teaching works. All is into account, such as teaching content, teaching objective, key teaching points, teaching difficult points, and teaching process.Let the students know the social and cultural fields of Kunming street names by place names teaching, such as the street name’s languages, histories, geographical features and cultures. Thus, it is proved that place names teaching in TCSL is practicable.
