Mr. Li Datong is a famous bamboo flutist. His composition and performance is of vivid national and era characteristics. Mr. Li made some reforms on the bamboo flute’s composition, performance, training system as well as the instrument itself. However, currently the research to his music and system is imperfect. Most of existing researches focus only on music form analysis or performance characteristic. Therefore, the author Think, the research to Mr. Li’s bamboo flute music should include the formation and development of the composition characteristic, performance style and performance skills as well as the relationship between training methods, system, instrument reform and performance standard. I made a systematical analysis to his flute music after listening to his audio, studying his works, referring to existing documents, concluding Professor Fang Guangyao’s teaching and theory illustrations to Mr. Li’s style and skills with the purpose to give future students a comprehensive theoretic summary.Compared with others, Mr. Li inherits the traditional six-hole flute and develops the traditional play method, which improves the traditional method, tune and tone color; enriches the performance capacity of traditional music; makes it possible that performing the major and minor keys or transferring key with one flute. In his Xinjiang style flute music, Mr. Li applies chromaticism and natural tone method, gives consideration to universal twelve-tone equal temperament, pythagorean intonation and three different intonation and solves such problems as weak half tone, blur tone and others. Mr. Li also created the single and double aspiration method, which is fast, equal, of obvious strength comparison. He also established strict and systematic basic skills.The research on his music pieces is effective to classify regional culture features and performance styles of the flute music. It is good for the diversity of flute music development.The research utilized resources from Internet, university and college libraries and the tutor. I also interviewed Mr. Li and got to know his growth environment, history background, music ideas, performance experiences and cognition. I also interviewed his students and colleagues. On the basis of the above investigation, I conclude the components of his music and his special contribution to the development of flute music.The main research methods used in this paper include:investigation method, documents analysis method,cross method and comparison method, etc. Others include materials collection method, observation method, qualitative analysis method, description research method, case research method etc. the comparison method is one of the most important methods.
