Since Wes Anderson’s film Grand Hotel Budapest won the 64 th Berlin International Film Festival Silver Bear as well as four audiovisual awards of the 87 th Academy Awards, this director, whose works were to some extend regarded as ‘Niche’ and ‘alternative’, started to catch the public’s attention. However, there is not much research on him in China. Thus a specific analysis of the post-Wes Anderson movie modernist tendencies will be done in this dissertation.Wes Anderson’s movies have a strong personal style, which is very different from the style of traditional films. Since it is not difficult to find the stigma of post-modernism in this auteur’s charming personal style, the study of the post-modern tendency in Wes Anderson’s films is essential for the research on his specific films. This thesis explores the unique expression of post-modern tendencies in Wes Anderson’s films. Through the analysis of his films’ elements, such as narrative, characterization, style of camera shooting and the colors, Wes Anderson’s expression with his strong personality in the films as well as the formation of the unique charisma of his movies’ style are discussed in the context of the post-modernist style of films.
