Big Five Personality Inventory (IPIP NEO-PI-R) Of The Initial Amendment

Personality measurement are very important significance for predicting the individual’s mental health, personnel selection and placement, individual career development planning and other areas of work. Big five personality inventory as the world’s most popular personality measurement tools, it has great practical significance of the revision.This study revised NEO PI-R, which belongs to International Personality Item Pool(IPIP). Here referred to as the IPIP NEO-PI-R. After translation and two times revision, deleted20items, and formed PIP NEO-PI-R full scale Chinese version. With the scale surveyed1276college student from the northern, the middle and the southern of JiangSu province,three regions, six schools. Based on this sample data, I tested reliability and validity of the scale,at the same time, preparated the IPIP NEO-PI-R norm of Jiangsu Province.The results of the study show that:(1) Dimensions:This scale has5dimensions,80items. Neuroticism dimension has14items, extraversion dimensionof20items,openness are13items, agreeableness dimensio n of14items, conscientiousness dimension have19items. Each items is a5-point scoring.(2) Reliability:The coefficient of internal consistency of total scale is0.846, five dimensions’α is between0.760and0.881.Interval of two weeks test-retest reliability coefficient is0.785, five dimensions’test-retest reliability coefficient is between0.798and0.856.(3) Validity.Content validity. The scale has been translated by psychology major and English major graduates, and several psychological professores review. the Chinese edition of scale is of high content validity.Construct validity. The correlation between dimensions is from0.325to0.493,and the correlation between each dimension and total score is from0.297to0.760. exploratory factor ananlysis extraction of the five main factors which explain32.581%of the total variance of the project, and the items are all in their respective original factor structure surface. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fiting the observed data is general, x2/df value of1.791(less than2), RMSEA value of0.039(less than0.05), GFI=0.776, AGFI=0.762, CFI=0.791, TLI=0.783, but need to be further modified and improved. Compatibility validity showed that the high correlation between the various factors that measure the same trait, the correlation coefficient is between0.663to0.888. Measure different trait of the various factors that have low correlation. The two test score correlation coffecient of0.818was significantly high correlation.Criterion validity. Self-assessment and his rating scale in the same dimansions are significant correlation, the correlation cofficient between0.246to0.4099.In sunmary, content validity, construct validity and criterion validity of the sacle show that the validity is good.
