Nowdays, energy has become an important factor affecting the world situation andthe fate of a country. Central Asia is drawing strong attention from the world’s majorpowers because of its important geo-strategic position and abondant energy resources, which has an important position in the international energy landscape. As three main forces of Eurasia, Russia, China and the EU has become directcompetitors in attaining energy of Central Asia. Central Asia’s oil and gas resources arestrategically important for China’s energy security and diversity of energy supply. Energycooperation between China and Central Asia has maintained a good momentum theseyears. But with increased competition, China’s strategic space in Central Asia is beingsqueezed. EU has been an inactive participant in Central Asia in the past, however in June,2007, it announced a new strategy towards Central Asia, which sepcially highlighted EU’sconcerns about energy cooperation with Central Asia. Russia has always regarded CentralAsia as its "backyard". Therefore it’s also struggling in an effort to maintain its dominantrole(especially in energy sectors) in Central Asia, when major countries in the world haveall been involved in the competion.Based on this background, this article specifically analyzed the content and featuresof the struggle in energy field between Russia, China and EU in Central Asia, It alsoclarifies the emerging trilateral relationship of them in energy sector in this region, andeven the triangular relationship of them in the entire Eurasia.
