“The Cultural Revolution” is a wrong practice under the guidanceof the wrong theory.《Resolutions for Certain Historical Issues of theParty Since the Establishment of the PRC》formulated by the6thmeetingof the CPC11thCongress point out that “the Cultural Revolution” is nota revolution or social progress in any sense. It is a wrong movement ledby the leader of the party. It causes great damage and bad influence tothe party, the nation and the people. The theory which guides the movementis summarized as “continue the revolution under the dictatorship of theproletariat”. The most important part of the theory is the revolutionshould be continued after the proletariat has taken the regime andestablished the socialist system. Many factors affect the establishmentof the theory by the leader of the party Mao Zedong. In the early1960s,both the international and domestic situation of PRC is not good. It exertsan influence in Mao Zedong’s philosophical thinking and the concept ofsocialism. With a careful analysis of the theory we may find the motivationand the main goals of Mao. In this research, we try to put “the CulturalRevolution” in the history of China’s modernization in the20thcentury,and point out that the theory is changeable. The wrong theory constantlydirects the wrong practice, wrong practice also affects the error theory.In this paper, first we introduce the background and significance ofthe study, academic review and the research methods. The second partsummarizes the thoughts of Mao Zedong before “the Cultural Revolution"including the impact of international and domestic situation on his inthe1960s, philosophical thinking and the concept of socialism. The thirdpart expounds the interaction of theory and practice of “the CulturalRevolution” through the analysis of historical facts and some coreconcepts. The last part of this paper is the reflection on “the CulturalRevolution” based on the modernization study of China and socialistconstruction with Chinese characteristics.
