As the development of the global economy, TEMs are facing the opportunity of rising turnover and benefit, but they have to provide new service in a fast and low-cost way, which brings many challenge, including the deploy of equipment rapidly before the chance coming, the control of running cost when they can manage more and complex equipment, and reduce the storage cost under the demand of service availability of 99.999%Because of all these needs, ATCA platform has no doubt become an open telecom computing architecture. Compared to the traditional blade server, ATCA has advantage in TCO, which is not only on due to its blade architecture may convenient for the service provider to maintain the equipment, but also its competitive computing density and price.The availability of equipment may be one of the most important index of telecom grade platform, and also the present of software and hardware. Service Availability Forum defined the high availability middleware -HPI. This middleware is built above the OS and below the application. H PI joins to the OS and provides the management of hardware resources, shielding the hardware details to application and up layer middleware.This thesis has done some research to the network management system based on SNMP agent in the HPI platform. We mainly discuss the following problems:1. ATCA related technology trend and the introduction of ATCA system, including the architecture and its management character, and also introduce the advantage of ATCA briefly. The research of the HPI specification, and explain the main model of this specification.2. Introduce the architecture of network manager system, SNMP protocol and its protocol operation.3. Advance the design of network management system based on HPI by SNMP protocol and finish the communication between the Agent and Shelf Manager. Realize the connection with the shelf manager by openhpi, and according to the actual demand of HPI network manager, we use the net-snmp in the agent and introduce some configuration.4. In the design of Manager, finish the development of the manager in GUI with snmp++, realize the MIB Browser and load the HPI- SNMP MIB file successfully, which is ready for development in the next step.
