The multimedia SoC based on embedded processor has been applied everywhere such as communication terminal, consumer electronic, etc. With the progress of semiconductor sub-micro fabrication process, digital integrated circuit with millions gates can be implemented on a single chip easily, the complicated audio and video enc/decode logic with high compression and low distortion such as MPEG2/4 and H264, can be integrated occupied much less area, that can meet the requirement of different application. With the update of RISC such as ARM and MIPS,the development of system bus supporting high-bandwidth and the implement of more complicated algorithm module, a big challenge is brought to a successful multimedia SoC project. An excellent design method, a full architecture and a powerful verification platform can ensure the correct result of every step in design flow.The function and internal architecture of some recent multimedia SoC are analysised, then come up the common multimedia SoC basic organization architecture and design requirement; take AMBA bus for an example, the AMBA SoC architecture and design method are introduced, a special bus matrix is used to increase bus bandwidth; two physical verification scheme are presented: FPGA verification environment based on the ADSP-BF537 and based on the ARM, the principle and environment of the former is mainly proposed, the verification flow and method of each are put forward with the example of MP3 decoder.The reuse IP methodology is used, the SoC based AMBA bus is designed, the MPEG2/4 and H264 audio/video accelerator function verification is implemented using the verification platform based ADSP-BF537; the embedded VxWorks and Linux operating system, the sw-hw co-verification of audio/video module and the communication interface such as MAC and USB are all implemented by the platform based ARM.
