The management of network is a very important technology for the development of network.It has a great influence on the development of network and has become one of the most important problems in the modern information network.ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode, ATM) technology combines two existing switching, circuit switching and packet switching. It connects two sides, it is needed that there is connection between two sides, we have to remove the connection by signaling at the end of the communication. So ATM has the characteristics of circuit switching; at the same time, the switch and transmission of data in ATM use a fixed length group that is called cell, in which the letter contains the first part of the selection path for VPI / VCI information, therefore ATM also has the characteristics of packet switching.ATM network is an integrated network that contains a set of voice, data, images, and other businesses. ATM network management is based on the basis of a variety of network protocols so it can complete the same work as other network management features.Management Information Base (MIB) is the main part of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), which is a collection of information of managed devices or objects. The main content of the MIB information is primarily the actual data in SNMP device or description of the data. By embedding SNMP data in communication equipments, the management system can manage these devices from a central point. The principle of designing SNMP is simplicity and extensibility.We can break up the management information model and protocol and the detailed provisions of the managed object (MIB) to achieve expansibility. Simplicity can be achieved by limiting the types of information, request / response and agreement. The base of SNMP operation model is Management Centre, Management Agent (agent), network management protocol and management information base (MIB). Management Centre is used to be the the interface tool that manage all the network components. Management stations can be independent and can also be a part of a shared multi-user system. It depends on the size of the network environment. Management Information Base MIB (Mamagement Information Base) is a precise definition of the information that can be accessed to through Network Management Protocol. MIB defines network management information by using a hierarchical, structured form. Each device must use the format defined in the MIB information in order to consistent with standard network management protocol.This thesis describes the malfunction manage of ATM network and development of software of fault management, and completes the part of distilling fore data. It is started with the summary of administration of networks, ends with the software implement. In the middle of the thesis, we discussed the related knowledge of ATM and SNMP, the structure and performance parameter of the switch, the private MIB, and so on. This software is developed by Microsoft Visual J++, and used the genus of ADVENTNET company.It also stored the performance and fault data of switch in the SQL database.
