With the shock waves of globalization and individualization of buyers' markets, more and more manufacturing enterprises have gained a common perspective –future inter-enterprise competitions would concentrate on rapid product configuration that bases on customers'ever-changing needs, to win over customers. This thesis contrasts and analyzes both domestic and oversea researches on requirements-driven product configuration management, and makes much progress against insufficiencies of current researches. This thesis starts with survey on customers'requirements driven product configuration management (PCM) frames. It analyzes PCM business processes that base on both predictable and orders requirements and provides separately management models. Then it takes further steps into PCM processes that base on predictable requirements. Measurements and QFD approaches with utilities are analyzed; questionnaire design introduced during evaluating customers'requirements. A multi-objective schematic QFD model is then put forward with approaches to implement PCM processes that base on predictable requirements. Correspondingly, configuration approaches with utilities for PCM processes that base on orders requirements are also examined. The product-family-based configuration approach is detailed; a general PCM theoretic model and a process model established in succession. Finally, engineering application instances are offered for validation purpose.
