The appraisal of sustainable development is the foundation of perfecting the sustainable development theory and guiding practice of development. This paper use the method of experimental research and normative analyses that combines together with the real example, but rely mainly on the fact that the real example is analysed. On the base of universal study in urbanization, we apply experimental research to study specific area (Chongqing Yubei district). After consulting the index system of appraising the urbanization both at home and abroad, according to the Yubei district's own environment, economy and social system, we set up an index system to evaluate the sustainable urbanization development of Yubei district. At first, we carry on longitudinal analysis to study the current situation of the Yubei district urbanization sustainable development level. Then use the horizontal method to compare with other eight urban areas while enclosing in the city of Chongqing. Then has converted its urbanization rate. It defines the hindrance factors of sustainable development and developing direction of urbanization in the future. The Study of urbanization process and mechanism mostly focus on the developed area and fast increase area both at home and abroad. Existing index systems have one main limitation that system excessive to emphasize ecological environment or economic constant, and often overweight the questions of some respects, does not consider different respects of urban sustainable development synthetically. So, there are certain academic meanings of this paper, and important practical meanings combined with regional characteristic.
