China And The Regional Cooperation In East Asia After The Cold War

The main object of this dissertation is to clarify the characteristics of regional cooperation in East Asia, the great significance and impact of this cooperation on China, and how to deal with this tendency and confront with the obstacles in regional cooperation in East Asia to protect and advance the national interest of China. All these answers should be based on the complicate analysis of regional cooperation and development in East Asia.In chapter one, we analyzed several concepts related to the research in this dissertation. Firstly, we bring forward the definition of regionalism on the discussion of historical development of regionalism. Then we point out the six fundamental elements which was included in the regionalism of East Asia. On the analysis of development course of regionalism in East Asia, we sum up the basic character of regionalism in East Asia. On chapter two, we draw the outline of cooperation in East Asia and point out that the regionalism in East Asia consist of regional economic cooperation, regional security cooperation and regional social cooperation. Also we explain the obstacles and trouble in the process of regional cooperation. At the end of this chapter, we put our attention of research to China and analyze the attitude and policy of China to regional cooperation in East Asia.Beginning from the chapter three, we turn the centre of our research to China. At first we analyze the motivation of China to take part in regional cooperation in East Asia. Then we point out the significant implication of regional cooperation on Chinese development and the obstacles in the process of cooperation for China. In the following chapter, we compared the motivation and policy of Japan, Korean and ASEAN on regional cooperation in East Asia. We also point out the various contradictions in the regional cooperation in East Asia between these three countries. We also analyze the reasons which cause the difference between these three countries from three points of view. In chapter five, we clarified the prospect of the regional cooperation in East Asia from the view-point of China. In this chapter, we point out the instability of economic development of East Asia and the political dilemma in regional cooperation. At the end of this part, we also give some advice of how to confront with these troubles in cooperation for China.The final part of this dissertation is the conclusion of this paper. According to the above analysis, we emphasize that China should hold on the faith of continuing totake part in the regional cooperation in East Asia. At the same time, we should find ways to resolve the difference and contradiction between these countries in East Asia. Finally, the author emphasize that China should take initiative to prompt the advance development of regional cooperation in East Asia. We also should construct the surrounding circumstance of security, prosperity and stability to serve the development of our country in the foreseeable future.
