On January 1, 2005, WTO members have abolished all limits of textile quotes, which is regarded as a token of textile and costume industry entering the era of free trade quota. The textile and costume is a traditional advantage industy of our country, which also has stronger international competitiveness and depend on international market to higher degree. The development of textile and costume has been relying on the advantage of nutural resoures and cheaper labour for many years. Although the quota will be abolished after 2005, the prospects of our textile and costume export are not optimistic as we have expected because market shares do not change easily and the low price competition from other textile industry countries form new menace. In addition, in order to enhance exporting competitiveness to European and American counties, so many counties signed Regional Liberalization Agreement with developed countries. The trade creation and trade deflection created by Regional trade, which also will weaken the competition of our textile and costume. At the same time, China textile and costume export has occupied larger shares in the International textile and costume down-market. It is very difficult to expand market shares. We should timely change the idea and keep our eyes on the up-market.I mainly study that China textile and costume face problems during post-quota-era, and analys the advantages of our textile industry. Then put forward the countermeasure of improving the international competitiveness of our textile and costume.
