On R&D Globalization In Transnational Corporations And China's Countermeasures

Transnational corporations are strong driving forces in the progress of economic globalization. After their production and operation globalization, they carry on R&D globalization. The R&D globalization in transnational corporations means that according to their own technological strength and strategic objective, transnational corporations dispose R&D resources worldwide and establish a global R&D network system in order to exploit their own technological advantages and scientific and technological resources of the host country to the maximum extent. Furthermore, through extensive external corporations with other enterprises, they achieve long-term, steady leading advantage in global technology.Following a study approach of successive theory analysis, current situation analysis, empirical analysis, case analysis and countermeasures analysis, this thesis begins with various theories related to the R&D globalization in transnational corporations, mainly exploring the basic conception, reason analysis, location decision and organization mode of this subject. Besides, from the angle of host country, a R&D game model between transnational corporations and enterprises in host country is introduced. Also, both positive and negative influences that transnational corporations bring to host country are identified, and the way of spillover is examined. In the current situation analysis, this thesis mainly focuses on three respects: general current situation of R&D globalization in transnational corporations, current situation of transnational corporations' R&D in China, and current situation of overseas R&D carried on by Chinese enterprises. Combining these three respects, a three-dimensional cognition of current situation of R&D globalization in transnational corporations can be easily obtained. The problem solved in empirical analysis is to test which factors influence transnational corporations' R&D in China, and which factors are primary and which ones are secondary, thus drawing the policy implication. In the case analysis, two cases of 3M company and Motorola Company are chosen—the former as a case of transnational corporations' R&D globalization and the latter as a case of transnational corporations' R&D in China. At last, based on the analysis above, some countermeasures are proposed for the Chinese government and enterprises.This study will provide either transnational corporations or governments and enterprises in host countries with its reference significance.
