Since the 1990s, the number of foodborne incidents, such as BSE,avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease and residual agricultural chemical problem and food poisoning, has been increasing dramatically throughout the world and imposed serious losses and difficulties in various aspects of the society. In order to avoid the occurrence of foodborne illness in China in the best way, it is imperative to establish information-based management structure for food safety. The author made a further study on the issues of information-based management structure for food safety in developed countries, and discussed with an attempt to raise useful measures for setting up information-based management structure of China for food safety. The thesis is mainly divided into seven chapters. 1. Summary 2. the concept and description of "Informationization" 3. the concept and description of the information-based management structure for food safety 4. the summary description of the information-based management structure for food safety in developed countries 5. the description of the information-based management structure for food safety in developed countries in detail 6. Status of the information-based management structure of China for food safety. 7. some suggestions for setting up information-based management structure of China for food safety. The first three chapters mainly introduce the basic concept and description of the information-based management structure for food safety. The second four chapters are the focal points of the thesis, emphasizing the problem of establishing and practicing the information-based management structure for food safety. Based on the experience of developed countries on the information-based management structure for food safety, the author presented some suggestions on setting up information-based management structure of China for food safety. The studies on information-based management structure for food safety, generally focusing on the application of information technology, have not been explored much so far. By comparison, the thesis made an all-around and intensive study on information-based management structure for food safety and raised unified, multi-level, entire process strategy, which includes four aspects, i.e. trace ability system of food management, credit system of food management, expert system and database system for food management and rapid alarm system for foodborne disease, for establishing and practicing the information-based management structure for food.
