Study On The Biopharmaceutical Cluster Of Pudong In Shanghai

Industrial cluster, especially high-tech industrial cluster, is one of the key topics for both academic and social studies. Biopharmaceutical industry, as one of the booming high-tech industries, has a trend of agglomeration and networking. Some advanced biopharmaceutical clusters have been formed in developed countries. Based on the review about related theories and international experiences in biopharmaceutical industrial cluster, this paper gives an analysis on the current status of Biopharmaceutical cluster of Pudong in Shanghai, and emphasizes the major factors that affect its development, such as interior collaboration network, venture capital system, etc. The author considers that the external environment and internal mechanism of Pudong biopharmaceutical cluster are both immature, so that the cluster is still in the forming stage. According to the problems existed, some policy suggestions were then put forward to the biopharmaceutical cluster of Pudong, such as strengthening cooperation between research institutes and pharmaceutical companies, improving the service platform.The whole paper is divided into six parts:In the part of introduction, a brief framework was given on the significance, content, and the research base.Secondly, the paper has a review on related theories in biopharmaceutical industry and its clusters. Based on the concept and theory of biopharmaceutical industry and industrial cluster, the author summarizes the basic characteristics of biopharmaceutical clusters, and illustrates the global spatial pattern of them.In the third part, the paper discusses the main factors affecting the development of biopharmaceutical cluster.
