This thesis studies the relationship between the commodity structure of foreign trade and industrial structure in Guangdong Province; the key research is put on the influence of total import and export and its classified commodities on the industrial structure and the conducting mechanism between the industrial structural change and the change in foreign trade commodity structure. Firstly, resting on the theory of international trade and industrial development, this paper combs the main viewpoint of the comparative advantage theory and the new trade theory from the foreign trade structure angle, summarizes the law about the industry evolution and the strategies that facilitate the industry development, and analyses the function channel and mechanism between the structure of foreign trade and industrial structure, furthermore analyses the tendency and main characteristics of the change in foreign trade structure and industrial structure in Guangdong Province from 1986 to 2004 within this theoretical frame. Secondly, based on Yang Quanfa(1999)'s modification to Chenery(1975)'s semi-logarithmic regression function, this paper slightly modifies this function and then does OLS estimate by this model, and analyses the influence of total import and export and its commodity structure on industrial structure in Guangdong Province from 1986 to 2004. Therefore this paper comes to the conclusion that both import and export have significant promotion to Guangdong's industrial structural change and its industrialization process, meanwhile we finds that both import and export of labor-intensive products and capital technology-intensive products have remarkable influence on the growth of secondary industry, but their influence on tertiary and primary...
