The poultry as a labor denseness industry plays an important role in the increase of the farmers' income. Japan is the biggest poultry market of China, but the export began to decrease since 2000 due to the AI, SARS, and the competition. Therefore this research will be helpful to change the decline and improve the competitive advantage of the Chinese poultry industry. Using competitive advantage theory and SWOT analyzing method, the paper made a systemic analysis of the main factors that influenced the poultry trade between China and Japan, and measured the trade advantage of the Chinese poultry export. It will be helpful to formulate the poultry trade policy. The main content is as follows:Firstly, the dissertation analyzed the poultry meat production and trade in China and Japan. The increase of the poultry meat import is inevitable due to the rigid demand, but the influence of the increasing import is little because of the complement of the product variety. The demand of the poultry meat in Japan is stable. Moreover, the production is strictly defined. If we want to expand the export, we have to gain the market share from the competitors.Secondly, the paper analyzed the advantage and disadvantage of the poultry export between the competitors (Brazil, Thailand and America) and China. At last we get the SWOT matrix table.Thirdly, RAT mode (Relative Advantage in the Third market) has been constructed and used to measure the relative advantage of China, compared with the competitors. In terms of raw China has no advantage over Thailand and Brazil, but superior to United States. But China has advantage over the other three countries on the processed poultry meat. In the total export, china is inferior to Thailand, but superior to Brazil and United states.Fourthly, the paper analyzed the main factors that influenced the export of the Chinese poultry to Japan, such as AI, the supply of Chinese poultry, the demand of Japan, competition, the agriculture policy of Japan and so on.Fifthly, the export of the Hua Du Co., Ltd has been used as a case study, validated the conclusion of the paper.At last, policy options have been formulated on poultry meat production, poultry association, product developing and AI prevention and so on.
