HS-WEDM is a kind of EDM which is invented by our country. It is widely used in the processing field of low precision. But the defects of its movement wire system makes it difficult to ensure accuracy of parts if the wire is broken. The workers always reprocess the work-piece if the wire is broken which reduce the process efficiency and the economic benefit. So studying on the HS-WEDM automatic wire connection of HS-WEDM and device design of rapid wire installation will improve the yield of machining parts and also can improve the economic benefit.The wire movement system of the HS-WEDM is usually composed of single filament tube storage and a wire rack which likes a tuning fork, when the wire is broken the workers must remove the broken wire before they install the new wire which makes it difficult for the machine to install the new wire automatically. In this thesis we design a device which could help the workers install the new wire quickly. It will help the machine to achieve the complete automatic wire connection.The device is composed by three parts:the automatic wire removing device, the automatic wire clamping device and the rapid wire fastening devices. The rapid wire installation device will finish the mission of getting rid of the broken wire, installing the new wire and the second time of wire clamping. The device of rapid wire installation is designed considering of the size of the machine, it is installed in the machine as a functional accessories, it can helps the machine install the wire rapidly.After the design of the rapid wire installation, we select the S7-200to control the device on the basis of the mechanical structure and movement requirements. When the wire is broken the PLC will start to work then it will control the device to install the new wire automatically.When we finish the design of the machine and the preparation of the control program, we connect the entire device and the control program and installed them on the machine to conduct a test, we analyze the performance of the device by the test result. At last we draw a conclusion that the device will improve the efficiency of the new wire installation and it will not affect the machining accuracy.
