In accordance with the features of raw silk as a kind of natural fiber, the problems inthe size which is the indirect index of the fineness of raw silk filament are analyzed. Theexisting methods of the electronic detection of raw silk fineness are analyzed. A newviewpoint using the cross-sectional area, as the direct index to measure the fineness of rawsilk filament is proposed. A method of using an image sensor is proposed in this thesis. Adynamic measuring device, which is used to measure the fineness of raw silk series, isdesigned and developed. And the fineness series of raw silk is detected and analyzedpreliminary by using the dynamic measuring device.The dynamic measuring device is used to measure the moving raw silk in two verticaldirections. Firstly, suppose the number of the pixels obscured by silk and the diameter ofraw silk are linearly correlated. This measurement system is calibrated by two syntheticfibers with circular cross-sections and known diameters. The linear equations with thenumber of the pixels and the diameter are obtained. Secondly, the dynamic measuringdevice is used to measure the winding raw silk. By use of the linear equations, thediameters of raw silk can be obtained. Thereby, the raw silk fineness series can be drawn.Finally, raw silk fineness series and the fine limit points are studied. The results of thisthesis will be used to the electronic detection of raw silk.
