Shampoo is essential in our daily lives,as people are pursuing the higher physical entertainment and improving the life quality,theyhave higher expectations and stricter demands on shampoo.An ideal shampoo is not only a cleanser, but also possessesbetter conditioning performance. Due to hair wasnegatively charged, the cationic polymer is easy to deposite on the surface of hair, which could not only decrease irritationon the scalp which caused by the anionic surfactant, decrease the static electricity, improve the combing performance, but also be useful on the viscosity and the stability of shampoo.Currently,cationic polymers,such as polyquaternium-10and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, are widely used in shampoo. Polyquaternium-10and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride deposite coacervation in anionic surfactant.Due to interaction of charge, the flocculent precipitate was absorbed by the keratoprotein on hair.That is the reason they have conditioning function. During cleansing hair, shampoo was diluted in different ratio in different time, thatmeans it could not optimizeflocculation just by one polymer, so the conditioning performance was limited. Most of the shampoo on the market are basically made with just one cationic polymer, the conditioning performance could be improved.Moreover,30%-40%of the shampoo market shareare dominated by anti-dandruff shampoo,which shows not only the conditioning performance,but also anti-dandruff. In dandruff shampoo, anti-dandruff agent zinc pyrithione is widely used due to its safety and efficacy.However, the particle size of the zinc pyrithioneis too large to be stable in shampoo with higher dosage.It always aggregates during storage or transportation. Currently suspension agents are widely used, such as hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ethersand polyacrylic acid polymers. However,it still has very large development space to improve the suspension performance. In such background,themainworkofthisdissertationistostudythehigh conditioning performanceand suspension performanceof shampoo. The study relates to cationic polymer and suspending agent combination usage, the results of each part are listed as following:(1) By adding different types and dosages cationic polymers in shampoo, we analysis the flocculation data. Then, based on the coacervation records and performance tests, we design formulation, develop and research a new combination cationic polymers, and ultimately determines the conditioning shampoo formulation. Formulated products are mainly tested on combing machine and SEM. The result shows that the quality and performanceachieve better conditioning performance on Asian damaged hair.(2) Based on the analysis of high polymer thickener, including hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ethers, polyacrylic acid polymers, crosslinked acrylic acid ester copolymer, we studysingle/mixed polymers to suspendZPTin shampoo. The experimental result shows that the combinated polymers are better than singlepolymerto stabilize zinc pyrithione (ZPT) in anti-dandruff shampoo. Thecombinationcould not only improvethe suspension capability, storage stability,but also better the combing performance of the shampoo.Furthermore,the appearance of the product is more attractive to people.These results are expected in the near future to achieve industrialization.
