The exploitation of deep-sea oil is an important developing direction of the12th5-year plan in our country. As oil-exploiting becomes deeper and deeper, more oil willbe exploited, so more subsea production facilities are needed. Because of this, moremarket oppotunities are brought to the companies which make subsea productionfacilities. At the same time, more requirements are proposed to the method ofproduction and management. Nowadays, the main research item in the field of virtualmanufacturing technology is virtual assembly, which can really complete productionefficiently, with good quality, at little time, and at little cost. In this paper, the virtualassembly technology of typical components of subsea production facilities is mainlyresearched, and the virtual assembly system based on the software of Creo Parametric2.0has been developed in the programing environment of Visual Studio software.Thecontents in this paper are mainly as follows:Firstly, it’s about virtual assembly technology. The research status of virtualassembly technology and the secondary development of Creo software is introducedin this paper. Then, the theory of the virtual assembly system of typical components ofsubsea production facilities and the development of the virtual assembly system isexplained in detail.Secondly, both the technique of the extraction of the information of parts andsub-assemblies and the technique of data exchange are elaborated. The information ofparts and sub-assemblies includes the information of parts and the information ofsub-assemblies. The information of parts contains the features of parts and thedimensions of parts. The information of sub-assemblies contains the structure trees ofsub-assemblies, the positions of sub-assemblies and the mates of sub-assemblies. Onone hand, the technique of data exchange contains the upload and download of thedatas from the database, which is Microsoft Access2003or Microsoft SQL ServerManagement Studio2008.Thirdly, it comes to the main contents of this paper, which is divided into twoparts. First part is about the analysis and calculation of the assembly dimension chain,and the mate principle between a hole and an axis is mainly introduced in this part, inaddition, the calculation of the assembly dimension chain by extreme value method and probability method is also included. Second part is about the technique ofassembly path planning with interfere check in each step, and the technique ofassembly path planning based on the transformation of posture matrix of componentsis illustrated in this part.Finally, there is an example verification of the virtual assembly system. Theexample is a underwater connector, which is one of typical components of subseaproduction facilities. The possibility of the virtual assembly system can be certificatedby this example.
