With the increasing demand of oil and gas resource, the oil exploitation on land has beenexpanded and become more difficult. Therefore, it has gradually become the mainstream tosearch for petroleum on the sea at present which presented new requirements to offshore rig.Because of the high cost of offshore drilling, it is particularly necessary to improve theefficiency of offshore rig. Most current offshore platforms have installed top driver toimprove drilling effiency. However, as old-type platform is limited by the space of rig floor,the stand building equipment can not be installed, which becomes the soft spot to furtherimprove the efficiency of offshore rig. Consequently, it is quite significant to find a measureto increase the area of rig floor and install the stand building equivement.Firstly, the new concept of external hanging operating platform was put forward on thebasis of the parameter limitation of rig floor and the process flow requirement of standbuilding equipment. A micro-sized operating platform was added on the side opening of thederrick to increase the area of rig floor on which the stand building equipment was installed tofinish making connection, and then was transferred to the pipe setback inside the derrick forthe drilling operation. Secondly, the platform structure was designed according to the functionof the external hanging operating platform,and the different parts and the whole of the standbuilding equipment, stand transfer device, mouse hole and catwald machine etc. weredesigned according to the process requirement of stand building equipment, stand transfer andpipe setback. Thirdly,the finite element software was used to analyze the static force, extractthe natural frequency so as to avoid the damage of the external hanging platform caused bythe inrationality of the structure, the low intensity of the material and the resonancephenomenon. Fourthly, the static analysis and check of the main-load bearing parts anddemagemable-parts of various mechanical devices were made to guarantee the rationality ofmechanical structure and the reliability of material strength. Fifthly, the degree of freedomwas calculated and the motion of special devices was analyzed so that the control systemcould make accurate control of each manipulator. Sixthly, rational hydraulic scheme wasdesigned, and the corresponding hydraulic components including hydraulic pump, hydraulicvalve, hydraulic cylinder and hudraulic motor etc. were chosen on the base of the motion of the whole mechanical structure. Meanwhile, as the motion of making connection wasrelatively simple, the control scheme of PLC and sensor were selected and used and then thecorresponding PLC control program were fomulated.
