Tread pattern has an important and direct influence on the performance of tire, with the higher and higher requirements on the quality of tire, the tread pattern is becoming more and more complex. CATIA become a commonly used3D design software of tread pattern because of its powerful surface modeling function. The design of tread pattern through many surface operations (sweep, trim, extract, combine etc.) due to its complex structure, which spends a lot of manpower and time. The specificity of CATIA is poor for the design of pattern, so it is important to develop a set of tire tread special modeling system.The Dassault company provides secondary development tools of CATIA software, and opens secondary development interfaces and part of the program functions, put forward tire tread parametric design system after consult a lot of literatures and summarize the experience of predecessors. The system adopts the type of programmable parametric design, based on secondary development platform of CATIA/CAA and using RADE as development tool, Microsoft Visual C++is the carrier of RADE, the development tool of CAA is integrated in VC++. According to the models of pattern structure which were provided by the company, tread pattern was split into simple pattern semantic units by the tire tread semantic, using the program package semantic information of tire tread, programming the design process of tread pattern in the development environment of Microsoft Visual C++through the program function in the API library, running the program, complete the programmable parametric design of pattern.Parametric design system of tread pattern was extension of CATIA function modules, the system can be fully integrated in CATIA software, has convenience of interactive parametric design and high efficiency of programmable design, can realize repeated modification of the pattern parameters.
