Lean Manufacturing, originating from Toyota's TPS (Toyota Production System), is an outstanding modernized production system created by Japan's Toyota Company. Under the circumstances of the changing global economies and markets over more than 20 years, it has been growing continuously into a production management system encompassing operation concepts, production organization, logistic control, quality management, cost control, inventory management, floor management, and continuous improvement.Lean Manufacturing originated from Toyota Company, but it is applicable not only to auto making. As a matter of fact, as a production management approach that focuses on the feasibility, efficiency, and flexibility, it has been reasonably applied in a very wide range of industries. As a company manufacturing and selling faucets and K & B accessories to overseas markets, NC is facing a series of challenges in production organization, manufacturing process management, quality management, and material movement management, and as a result, the Company is seeing a turn-down in yield rate, order deliveries, and profit performance over past few years. The Company is taking a number of initiatives for a turn-around, and the implementation of Lean Manufacturing is one of the most import initiatives. As a top management member, I participated into the Lean Manufacturing initiatives in the Assembly Workshop. This thesis summarizes my understanding of the application of Lean Manufacturing based on my experience in the Lean Manufacturing initiatives of the Company. This thesis made a study of the principles of Lean Manufacturing against the background of the actual Lean Manufacturing projects that happened at NC Company, presenting a full analysis of strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats of the implementation of Lean Manufacturing in the Assembly Workshop and elaborating on the system management, production line balance optimizing, total quality management, and continuous improvement. In addition, it concludes the lessons learned and to-be-improved areas during the implementation of Lean Manufacturing in the Assembly Workshop and proposes the further actions for continuous improvement.
