Research On Evaluation Of Iron Ore Imports Security In China

Iron ore is an important industry material, closely linked with state economy security.In China, the iron ore output falls far short of demand, so that we need import largequantities of iron from abroad. As the largest importing country in the world, we Chinahave no influence in the international iron ore market, just passively accepting that thelong-term negotiated price and the spot price significantly rise, and that the ocean freightfluctuates wildly. The safety of iron ore imports in China is under serious threat. Researchon safety of iron ore imports in China will help putting forward some suggestions onmaintaining the security our iron ore imports.In the first place, this article analyzes China's iron ore imports from severaldirections, such as scale, source place, price and transportation, based on internationaltrade theory and demonstrates current correlated research situation. Secondly, this articlesummarizes influencing factors of iron ore imports security, and creates the evaluationindex system. After that, it focuses on the evaluation of iron ore imports security in China,comparing from portrait to landscape orientation, and points out that iron ore imports ofChina is classified to be highly critical, far from that of Japan. Then, this paper summedup all potential safety hazard in iron ore imports of China, such as very fragmented steelindustry, unreasonable makeup of the imports, and so on. Finally, it gives the suggestionsto assure the safety of China's iron ore imports, including diversification import sources,building purchasing alliance, changing type of trading, quickening the process of overseasdevelopment, establishing strategic reserve system.Innovation of this article is putting forward an evaluation index system about iron oreimports security. The research is still not deep enough, need further study.
