Performance management is the core and key content of human resources management. It was very popular at one time, when many domestic enterprises retained well-known consulting companies to design the performance management system or designed, it themselves. However, the performance management in many companies ceased or became a mere formality as time goes by since it did not improve as expected. SGL company, a foreign mining company owning business in China also met the same problems. In particular, the design of the performance appraisal system is deficient; it is lack of the corresponding organization implementation and guarantee mechanism. Therefore, this paper is focused on the improvement and re-design of the SGL company's performance appraisal system, which will be good foundation of the performance management.This paper is based on the study of the SGL company's performance appraisal system. By combining theory with practice, this paper will do research on the current SGL company's operation status, industry background as well as the current practices of SGL's performance appraisal system. Proceeding from analysis and argumentation on the existing common problems, this paper re-designs the SGL company's performance appraisal system with relevant theories and knowledge.The paper discussed the principles, methods, foundation as well as the procedures employed in SGL company's performance management practices. Further exploration was conducted on the organization structure and guarantee mechanism to ensure the well operation of the system. During the improvement of the performance appraisal system, this paper re-designs the key performance indicators of SGL company's performance system by comparing kinds of performance appraisal methods, it applies KPIs, BSC etc. comprehensively and efficiently to develop the performance appraisal system.This paper is based on comprehensive study and practices of modern performance management theories, combination of the current SGL company's performance appraisal situations, company strategies, operations status as well as industry background and fully uses professional performance indicator design research methods, document literature, as well as personal work experience. This paper is trying to improve the efficiency of the company's performance management system by re-designing the performance appraisal system of SGL company.
