| Adopting qualitative research method, this study is targeting to find out the affects of work values to the interpersonal communication and organizational commitment between Mainland China and Taiwan employees. Semi-structured interview method was used to make in-depth interviews with-13 Taiwan and 12 mainland colleagues, all of them are working and living in Shanghai. All interview material, following principles of Grounded-theory, was encoded and re-structured, and finally got similarities and differences between these two groups of respondents in values, interpersonal communication and organizational commitment. Result 1:Mainland staff presents work values of individualism culture, gender equality, focusing on life, while Taiwanese reflects work values of collectivism culture, men outside the home while women not and focus on the work; Result 2:In Taiwan enterprises, Taiwan staffs created a tactful, relaxed and quick-responding working atmosphere while mainland staffs are more direct and straightforward. Therefore, when Taiwan staffs process up and down communication, such as allocating working tasks, taking care of employees, informal talking, there exist gap between communications. Result 3:Regarding the factor of maintenance to organizational commitment, both Taiwan and the Mainland staff put the payroll as primal position for continuing commitment, however, as for the normative commitments, Taiwan staff presented the focus of commitment to family values as well as organizational commitment, while the mainland employees demonstrated in the pursuit of achievement, which also reflects the values of their work individualism-orientation from the point of personal professional development. |
