Development Strategy Planning For Jieyang Yangmei Jade Industrial Clusters

China has become the world's largest jade consumption and processing market with a annual consumption of more than 200 billion in 2009, according to the statistics of Chinese Gems & Jewelry Trade Association. Another survey by All-China Chamber of Commerce for Jewelry & Precious Metals Industry shows that the global market of jade and jewelry has reached 6,000 billion U.S. dollars. It also predicts the Chinese market will be more than 2,000 billion Chinese Yuan in 2010, of which jade takes 40 billion. All of these statistical datas indicate that, as the improvement of people's life in recent years, jade and jewelry have become the hot spot in consumer market.As one of the four major jade industrial bases of Guangdong province, Yangmei has basically built up its industrial cluster. However, the competion of jade and jewelry industry becomes fiercer and fiercer. To occupy a vantage point in such a national, or even global competition, Yangmei must bring in the thinking of Industrial clusters and strategic management when considering its development policies. An integral set of conventions, decisions and actions should be introduced for strategic competitiveness and extra profits. This paper discusses the further development of Yangmei in a perspective of industrial clusters.Based on voluminous literature references, We first introduce several main theories of industrial clusters and strategic management. Then we try to analyze the problems that Yangmei industrial cluster encouters. Development strategies are proposed according to the current problems, providing valuable theoretical foundations for the development of Yangmei industrial clusters.
