Sustainable development of Chinese resource—based region has been a hot research topic since we decided to transit our economic development mode (from labor-focused and natural resource-focused to technology-focused). We're trying to construct a resource-saving and environment-friendly society. As for Chinese resource—based regions, its sustainable development mainly depends on the sustainable development of the local mining industry, which mainly depends on the sustainable exploration and production of the local mine.The paper first studied the research status quo of the topic on the sustainability of resource—based regions, studied the theoretic basis for definition and classification of resource—based regions and also the sustainable development theory, its origin and development. And then analyzed the exploration,utilization of the mineral resources and the local economy development, their correlation.Secondly, with the combination of Chinese homogenous functional region by the State Development and Reform Committee and mining economic regions by the Ministry of Land and Resources, and the present research progress on resources-based cities, this paper defined the resource—based region.Thirdly, based on the sustainability evaluations of the resource-based cities and the practice of the Green Mine Construction in resources-based regions, the paper set up a theorized model and evaluation indexes, trying to evaluate the sustainability of resources-based regions. With a case study, the research put forward a conclusion that the sustainability of resources-based regions needs all the effort from the local economy,ecology,environment,and resource industries etc. to lead to a homonymous development.
