This thesis described the basic theory of modern project management and development trend, and based on that, analyzed the importance and necessity of implementing project management in the engineering design. And analyzed the content and design objects of the construction project management according to the characteristics of power plant engineering design, meanwhile, discussed the project design management system, features and content of theoretical design. Through analysis and research of organizational structure of project management, this paper presented engineering design projects for thermal power plant established principle of organization. On this basis, establish a highly efficient and capable project team to ensure effective implementation of project management.This thesis took Jiaxing Power Plant PhaseⅢproject design as an example, discussed the project management theory in the actual application of engineering design projects, by application of modern project management techniques, by making detailed, scientific and reasonable schedule and dynamic control measures to ensure the progress of the project design goals. At the same time, to establish the appropriate quality assurance system and do a good job in all aspects of management, to take targeted control, preventive and corrective measures to ensure the quality of the realization of design projects. Adopted a design project cost management, three-dimensional design and management tools to ensure cost goals.In project Jiaxing Power Plant PhaseⅢ, due to the implementation of proper project design model and method project management, it has achieved good results, and provide other thermal power engineering projects with engineering experience for reference. Thus, project management has significant influence on thermal power engineering design project management as well as improving thermal power engineering competitiveness.
