The voice of developing low-carbon economy is growing louder under the stress of environmental protection. The wood working industry, although a conventional labor-intensive and raw material-intensive industry,is undergoing an unprecedented development in the Yangtze Delta, especially in the new century. Its enterprises number is large and growing rapidly.Menwhile, the distribution of these enterprises takes on certen spatial agglomeration features and tendency. The contributing factors and evolutionary trend of the spatial agglomeration of enterprises are given in this thesis bsaed on analysing the features shown in its evolutionary history and spatial configuration. The regional and phaseal features of spatial agglomeration are summarized from mass of literature information and first hand information. These features are visualized by the function of graphic display of ArcGIS and discribed by statistical tables in both qualitative and quantitive ways.Based on this.the contributing factors and evolving mechanism are revealed through theoratic analyses and case studies. Finally, predictions and proposals are provided.Six main conclutions are gained in this thesis. Firstly, the wood working enterprises in the Delta are dispersed in large scale and gather in certern local place. Secondly, the features and industrial levels of wood working industry vary from province to province in the Yangtze Delta. Thirdly, location advantage, market and policy support contribute to the agglomeration of wood working enterprises. Fourthly, the wood working enterprises in the Delta have significant agglomeration trend toward specific areas. Fifthly, the collaborated system and chain of wood working industry is mutually dependent and promoted with the wood working enterprises'spatial agglomeration. Sixthly, the spatial agglomeration of wood working industry in the Yangtze Delta evolving for deepper territorial industrial division of labor and higher industrial levels.Theories about division of labor based on specialization and industrial spatial agglomeration are combined in the thesis and applied to study the spatial agglomeration of wood working industry in the Yangtze Delta. The features, contributing factors and tendency revealed herein about the spatial agglomeration will be good reference both to make reasonable policy and to upgrade the industrial structure and spatial agglomeration of the wood working industry in the Yangtze Delta or other areas.
