Economists and management scientists have realized that enterprise has characteristic tokeep moving state unchanged and transformation (i.e. inertia) .This characteristic already haverestricted enterprise own development, and become the source of enterprise decline. Enterpriseas a subsystem of social systems, the development is not isolated but a continuous interactionwith the environment. People pay more attentions on organizational inertia precisely becausethe environments of enterprise change indefinitely. This thesis establishes the dynamic model of organization response behavior on cuspcatastrophe theory, and simulates the organizational reaction process. Organizational inertia isdefined as reciprocal of slope on organizational response surface. Study not only can confirmthe influence factors of organizational inertia but also can measure the size of theorganizational inertia. Through the model, we can explain the different behaviors oforganizations under the same competitive pressure. It is good for organization to grasp the keyof change. The first chapter presents the research background and significance of organizationalinertia, and elaborates the research relevant situation of the domestic and foreign from theconcept, the cause, the influence factors and the countermeasures of organizational inertia. Then it points out lack of quantitative research, and put forward the research method andcontent. The second chapter introduces the basic theory of organizational inertia research, including the theory of inertia, organizational inertia and the cusp catastrophe theory, andmakes a systematic analysis on it, analyzes the possibility of construction organizationresponse behavior dynamic model. In the third chapter it discusses the process oforganizational competitive response behavior. The dynamic model of response behavior isbuilt by the cusp catastrophe theory based on it, and put forward a measurement method oforganizational inertia by Oliva professor's algorithm. In the fourth chapter, empirical researchis analyzed by the data of Santa Paula Savings and Loan Association. Through Olivaprofessor's algorithm and Matlab, the levels of organizational inertia in different times arecalculated with measures based on predecessor's research. The further analysis is used toexplain the phenomena in the process of organizational development The last chaptersummarizes and concludes our research, and point out the inadequacy and gives an outlook ofthe future study in this field.
