The Agricultural Operation Scale And Trade Of Agricultural Products In China

With economic globalization, foreign trade of agricultural products has become an important symbol and means of implementation for modern agricultural development in China. As the construction of modern agriculture is being further promoted, traditional small-scale peasant economy has been more and more disadvantageous clearly in the course of agriculture industrialization and internationalization. Its productivity and manufacturing cost can be hardly competed with large-scale agriculture with industrialization and intensification in the developed countries. Then expanding the operation scale of agriculture is not only the objective requirements and the inevitable key of developing modern agriculture but also the important way to implement the comparative advantage of agricultural product trade in China. Therefore, studying the relationship between the operation scale and foreign trade of Chinese agriculture can provide the theory basis for making relative policy about agricultural trade or developing modern agriculture. In the meanwhile, it will be convenient to explore how to put the operation scale of Chinese agriculture into practice. However, from the existing study, we could easily find that most of them are inclined to the operation scale of Chinese agriculture or the scope of agricultural trade. And it is difficult to find some reference about the relationship between the two above. As for that, hereby we selected the agriculture structure as our study object to analyze their relationship from the standpoint of both theory and empirical.This thesis consists of six chapters. Focused on the operation scale and foreign trade of agriculture, and on the basis of understanding the especial relationship between the two, we used the existing theoretical achievements and connected the standardization research and empirical study to establish a framework. Then designed and selected the relative variable or index, searched the data we needed in the study. After that, we established the empirical model and demonstrated the relationship between the operation scales of planting industry, breeding industry, fishery industry and its agriculture trade respectively by using the annual time-series data from 1985 to 2009 in China. The relevant tests indicate that: firstly, whatever in the long or short run, operation scale of planting industry has a positive correlation with the import of agricultural products, a negative one with the export. secondly, the operation scale of the breeding industry shows a negative correlation with both the import and export of agricultural products in the long term, while, to some extent, contributes to the increase of import and export of agricultural products in the short term; thirdly, the operation scale of fishery industry suggests a positive correlation with the export of aquatic products in both terms. In terms of import, it shows a negative correlation in long term and a positive one in short term. Based on a brief analysis of the results, the paper advances some policy proposals to promote the growth of foreign trade of agricultural products through improving the operation scale of agriculture in China.
