A port and a city depend on each other for existence and promotion. Relying on the function of transportation and collection-distribution, a port not only created employment opportunities and attracted massive personnel's housing in the initial establishment period of a port-city, but also during the mid and late development period of the port-city, on the one hand the port depends on the infrastructure and the transportation environment of the city and develops unceasingly under the transportation demand of the city, On the other hand the construction, the industry and the trade of the city relying on the impetus of the port and its correlation industry obtain rapid development. Many port-cities in the world have all become the economy, politics and culture center of their countries, such as Boston-New York-Philadelphia-Washington in Northeastern American Pacific rim, Detroit-Chicago-Sao Paulo in five great lakes areas of American, London-Birmingham-Liverpool in England, Paris-Rotterdam-Cologne in Europe, Tokyo-Yokohama-Nagoya-Osaka in Japan, and so on, which are all the development history of "the boom of the city depends on the port, the city promotes the port". Therefore, the study on port-city relation is extremely essential. Dalian is the important port-city of the northeast area, realizing coordinated development of the Dalian Port-city has important strategic sense to construct the Northeast Asia important international shipping center and promote the northeast old industrial base.This article beginning with discussing the elementary theory of port-city relation, thinks that industry and the space are the basic chains among the complicated relation.
