Study On Development Characteristics And Industrial Transition In Coal-dependent Cities

Coal-dependent cities are an important part of resource-dependent cities, and play an important role in our city-system. As a special urban function type, coal-dependent cities provide lots of manufacture material for the economic construction of our society, and contribute to the acceleration of regional economics, achievement of industrialization and urbanization. However, since 1980s',because of their own development characteristics and the affection of new economic form and phenomenon, coal-dependent cities have confronted with serious sustainable problems, such as irrationality of industrial structure, slow increase of the economics, high rate of unemployment and serious environmental pollution. How to meet the challenge and achieve sustainable development is a crying for solving problems for coal-dependent cities. At present, our nation is at the middle stage of industrialization and acceleration stage of urbanazition, and the requirement for mineral resource presents upward trends. As the production base of energy, coal-dependent cities play an important role in industrialization and urbanization. Especially in the new situation of economic globalization and joining in the WTO, the sustainable development of coal-dependent cities play an important role in the assurance of the national resource security. In order to unload the dependence of mineral resource and achieve sustainable development, coal-dependent cities must run economic transition and transform the economic grow style.This paper takes Huainan for example, analyzing the development characteristics of industry and perception characteristics of residents, and the obstacle factors for sustainable development in coal-dependent cities. Based on the example of industrial transition in some offshore coal-dependent cities, it analyzes the general pattern and systematical frame of industrial transition in coal-dependent cities. From the industrial cluster aspect, the article analyzes the basement, obstacles and thread of the development of coal industrial cluster in Huainan.
