Core Technologies: An Empirical Study Of Samsung Electronics

Since The National Intermediate and Long-term Development Plan for Science and Technology has already supposed independent innovation as the national strategy, our research institutes and corporations are expected to develop ever increasing originative technologies, especially core technologies.Indeed, lack of core technologies has long been Achilles' heel of China's manufacturers. Therefore, there is no other way out for us but to insist in self-relied innovation aiming at final results of core technologies. But how ? The Korean Samsung Electronics has set us a good example in this regard for harvesting great success in core technologies, especially after the Asian financial crisis in 1997. Ever since Samsung Electronics has been speeding up its innovation pace, achieving fruitful results as far core technologies are concerned. Therefore, the author chooses Samsung Electronics as an empirical study in an attempt to discover how it develops core technologies and what we can learn from it.The dissertation is arranged as follows: firstly with preface are problem setting, research goals and methodology; secondly with theoretical study are definition and analysis of core technology; thirdly with assessment of Samsung's performance in terms of core technologies; fourthly with analysis of Samsung practices of development of core technologies.
