Information Resources Planning In Commercial Bank

Today, in knowledge-based economy era, information has become another strategic resources for the commercial banks besides labor power, financial resources and material resources. It is fundamentally concerned with the core competence of the commercial banks. In recent years, great achievement has been made on the informatization of the domestic commercial banks. But absence of information resources planning has caused a lack of information correlation along with poor maintainability and extensibility of the information systems. Furthermore, the wide existence of Information Isolated Island has turned into a bottleneck for the informatization of the domestic commercial banks.This thesis begins with a brief introduction of the informatization and the constituent parts of information resources in the commercial banks. Then it tries to describe the close relationship between information resources and the core competence of the commercial banks with a discussion about how information resources play a key role in managerial decision-making, organizational operation, channel service, product innovation and risk management in the commercial banks. It strongly emphasizes the necessity and significance of information resources planning in commercial banks with a review of the history, a survey on the current situation and an investigation on the causes for the existing problems of the informatization in the commercial banks. Then a comprehensive discussion is presented on the two main points of information resources planning in commercial banks, which are called strategic data planning and data management standardization. Following that are detail analyses of the main steps and some points to be paid attention to during the course of information resources planning in the commercial banks. Finally, this thesis explores some applications in the commercial banks that are based on information resources planning, including banking system integration and system extensions such as Data Warehouse, CRM, ERP, BPM and BI.
