Sustainable land use is always the hot topic of land Science. Comparing with foreign and domestic research progress, this paper appraised the condition of land use of Sichuan province and its 21 cities from 1998 to 2002, using ecological footprint (EF) theory and related models. Then, the relationship between sustainable degree of land use and efficiency of land use (or ecological footprint diversity, or development capacity) was analyzed based on analysis methods. Finally, the paper studied the quantitative evaluation of coordinative degree of land resource comprehensive system (LRCS) by coordinative degree model (CDM). The results were as follow.(1)Ecological footprint per capita of Sichuan was 1.46 hm~2/cap in 2002. Land carrying capacity (LCC) per capita was 0.80hm~2/cap. Ecological deficit was 0.66hm~2/cap. In the structure of demand of EF, the proportions of grassland, arable land and fossil energy land were in front of the place; in the structure of LCC, the ratio of arable land was highest, then were forest land, built land and grass land. The ratio of water was lowest. Statistic showed the tendency of ecological footprint per capita of Sichuan was increasing from 1998 to 2002. The increasing proportion of ecological footprint per capita was only 0.7% from 1998 to 2000; but increased quickly from 2000 to 2002, which added to 6.6%. The tendency of land carrying capacity per capita was also growing, and its range of increasing was more than EF's, which made ecological deficit per capita falling. Due to staying range of ecological deficit, the land ecological system was in non-sustainable state.(2)In order to analyze space-temporal variation of EF in 21 cities, the sample cities were chosed. They were Chengdu of rather developed region, Luzhou of...
