Railway passenger transportation plays an important role in the study on national transportation development strategy. It is more worthily to be considered that the comprehensive benefits of a passenger train. On one hand, it is the criterion to evaluate a passenger train good or bad; on the other hand, it provides a decision-making reason of operating a passenger train or not.Based on the study of the mechanism and the traits of the cost composing of a passenger train, the chapter two puts forward the idea to class the cost to external cost and inner cost, meanwhile it summarizes various influence factors of a passenger train's cost. Furthermore, the paper analyses and compares the strong points and the weak points of the cost calculating methods, offering a reference to select the calculating methods appropriately.In chapter three, the paper studies the economy benefits of a passenger train. Firstly, it analyzes the influence factors of a passenger train's incomes, such as, the fare, the distribution of ticket number and the transportation service level and so on. Then the good and the bad of each calculating method are analyzed by comparing with each other. At last, a few evaluation indexes of the economy profit and lose are given, such as, the income rate of passenger tickets, the contribution marginal and the profit and loss point and so on.In chapter four, the paper studies the traits of a passenger train's social benefits firstly, such as, the macroscopical trait, the regional trait, the indirect trait and the covered trait. Then, the paper studies the representations of a passenger train's social benefits, and mainly analyzes the passenger social benefits, the railway social benefits, the regional social benefits and the other social benefits.
