Research On The Changes Of Land Ownership And Agricultural Production Performance In Southern Jiangsu (1949-1984)

Since the mid-twentieth century, the land ownership system in southern Jiangsu witnessed many reforms. Impacted by these reforms, the agricultural production development also experienced a seriously fluctuating course. In virtue of the land reform completely blotted out the land ownership of feudal landlord in the beginning of the founding of P.R.C, the good conditions for agricultural development in southern Jiangsu was created. Thereafter, on the basis of the agricultural cooperation movement which reconstructed the individual ownership by peasants, the land collective ownership was gradually set up. On account of unilateral stress on escalating ownership by the arrangement of agricultural land system in the period of advanced cooperative and people's commune, the productive enthusiasms of peasants were injured. The large fluctuation took place in the agricultural development in southern Jiangsu in this period and the agricultural production performance turned out to be low. So the agricultural production became protracted stagnation. Up to the beginning of 1980s, the agricultural production performance was greatly promoted because the household contract responsibility system with remuneration linked to output was carried out and family farming system under the land collective ownership system war realized.In virtue of the theories and methods of history and economics, this essay takes historical periods as the main thread and takes the southern Jiangsu region as an individual case to systemically investigate the Land ownership status in rural areas and agricultural production performance in southern Jiangsu region in the period of land reform, agricultural cooperative and people's commune as well as the early period of household contract responsibility system.
