GIS-based Isoline-Generating System In Urban Logistics Distribution

With the development of the distribution modes such as the third party logistics and the door-to-door distribution, the requirements in urban logistics distribution have become various. It has been one of the most hot topics in the field of urban distribution that how to make decision quickly and efficiently. However, urban logistic distribution involves a great deal of spatial information correlated with geographical position. Therefore, it is a valuable issue to provide a GIS-based visual tool for decision makers.In order to provide a visual platform for analyzing and making decision, applying the theories and technologies of GIS-based isolines, this paper focuses on the method to generate isolines in urban distribution. Furthermore, a GIS-based urban distribution isoline-generating application is designed and developed. The main researches in this paper are as follows:1. Analyzes the isoline-generating system according to the characteristics in the urban logistics distribution, which offers foundations for the construction of the isoline-generating application.2. On the basis of system analysis, a number of researches of the isoline-generating methods are carried out. First of all, the choosing of sample nodes is investigated, and the urban distribution network for vehicle traveling is designed based on which the traveling costs from the center to every sample nodes are calculated. And then, we study the method of isolines calculating. The isolines are plotted based on the rectangle grids, and using the functions that Matlab provided.3. Designs the GIS-based urban distribution isoline-generating system from several respects, such as technology building, frame, basic design of GIS, and design of the database. Then a demonstration application based on E-map of Dalian has been developed according to the above-mentioned contents.The researches of isoline-generation method for urban logistics distribution probe into the combination of the GIS isolines and the urban distribution system. The realization of the application provides a visual analyzing tool for a number of the real-time decision problems in urban logistics distribution. The results also will improve the integration of GIS-based isolines and urban logistics distribution.
