Trade in services began to develop quickly in recent 30 years, so this is still a new field of economic studies. Chinese studies of trade in services are mostly related to the development of China service industry and policies after its entry of WTO, little was about Southeast Asia's. What's more, it's more difficult to analyze and collect the updated data of trade in services than that of tangible trade, for the speciality of trade in services and the different statistical methods between countries and international organizations. Especially, the data of liberalization in four main service industries of the 5 Southeast Asian Countries ( Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippine, Singapore, Thailand) are scattered. The author met some difficulties for all these problems during the studying process. She had to read a lot of English papers about Southeast Asian Countries.Services are becoming more and more important in world economy. The liberalization of trade in services is necessary after China's entry of WTO, so more research is needed for policy advices. The author started from the situation and theories of the liberalization of international trade in services, analyzed the liberalizing process of trade in services in the 5 Southeast Asian Countries. Then, by comparing with the process in China, the author gave some advices on developing and liberalizing China's service industries. Although this paper focused on the liberalization of the 5 Southeast Asian Countries, its purpose was to find some successful points in opening service industries. In the end, the author offered some helpful suggestions for the development of China's trade in services, such as"establishing reasonable policies of liberalization","considering the two sides in liberalizing process"and"developing trade in services based on native comparative advantages".
