As for the relationship between environmental regulation and international competitiveness,no consensus is reached in the academic circle. Some hold the view that environmentalregulation influences international competitiveness negatively while others think that strictenvironmental regulation improves international competitiveness. What impact does the environmental regulation of our country have on the textile industry? The thesis will analyze this problem theoretically and empirically. The theoretical partmainly studies the mechanism of the impact of environmental regulation on internationalcompetitiveness and finds that environmental regulation influences international competitivenessindirectly through cost and innovation. In the empirical part, first, Environment-CompetitivenessMatrix(ECM) is employed to analyze qualitatively the impact of environmental regulation on ourtextile's competitiveness, and finds that the environmental regulation challenges itscompetitiveness; second, on the basis of constructing a measurement of environmental regulation, the correlative analysis between them is conducted and finds that the environmental regulationcorrelates with our textile's international competitiveness negatively, and then a econometricalmodal of our textile's international competitiveness is built and finds that the environmentalregulation influences its international competitiveness negatively and strongly. Besides, theindustry scale and production factors influence it strongly too. Based on the framework andresult of this analysis, our textile factories may adopt corresponding strategies according to theirposition in the ECM, and our government may take measures from the aspects of cost andmarket to coordinate environmental regulation and our textile's international competitiveness.
