The Impact Of Environmental Regulation On International Competitiveness Of China's Textile And Clothing Industry

Ever since 1970s, the world-wide people have started the environment protection movement. While people strengthen the management of the environmental pollution, they have also given tremendous concerns for the influence of environmental regulation would on international competitiveness of industry. Foreign and domestic scholars carried on a great deal of theoretical researches and empirical analyses for this. Our country is the world's largest textile and apparel production, consumption and exporter country. And our textile industry in the international market has certain competitive power. How will textile and clothing industry still hold the competitive strengths and enhance the competitiveness in an all-round way, against the background of the environmental regulation. This is a significant issue for our country's textile and clothing industry.The thesis first introduces the theoretical basis and defines the relevant concepts. And then analyses the issue of the environment regulation how to impact our textile clothing industry, then Empirically analyses the issue of the environment regulation how to impact our textile clothing international competitiveness. Then introduces our country's textile and clothing industry development situation and analyses our textile clothing industry bases on the "diamond model", and then introduces the environmental regulation in our country and it how to constraint our textile clothing industry. Finally, Using the Environment-Competitiveness Matrix(ECM) to analyze the impact of environmental regulation on our textile clothing, and finds that environmental regulation influences international competitiveness indirectly through cost of manufacture, stimulating enterprise innovation and product differentiation. This part finds that the environmental regulation challenges our textile's competitiveness. In order to accurately analyze the relationship of the environmental regulation and our textile clothing industry, this paper uses the empirical analysis method. First, this part constructs the industry international competitiveness and environmental regulation stringency (ERS) synthetic evaluation system. And then conducts the correlative analysis between the competitiveness of our country's textile and clothing industry and environmental regulation. The result finds that the environmental regulation influences its international competitiveness strongly, but there is not a regular relationship between them. Finally, based on the conclusions above, the paper provides feasible suggestions to improve international competitiveness from the three angles of nation, industry, and enterprise.
