Entrepreneurship has played an important role in promoting the economy growth. Nowadays, China has become quite vigorous economic region, and "entrepreneurship" is no longer new to Chinese people. People woner much who'll be the successful entrepreneurs.This question had already caught western scholars' attention. In this field of entrepreneurs' study, it has emerged 3 approaches: trait-approach, behaivor-approach and contingency-appproach, which has transformed the researches trend from static and isolated view-poiont to holistic and dynamic view-point. The external validity and method variation have been increasingly emphasized as well. However, in our country the study of entrepreneurs is still very limited, which just cannot satisfy the practical need. So it is necessary to do more work to explore Chinese entrepreneurs' personal characteristics.This study adopted the methodology of competence model to develop entrepreneurs' competence model through behavior event interviews. For there may be difference in entrepreneurs' characteristics among different industry and different stages of a enterprise, to be cautius, just some industry and some stage were perfferred as the research object, that is middle-small knowledge enterprises in entrepreneurial stage. After the thematic analysis of 14 interview materials, compiling the competence coding dictionary, 2 competence models were built: superior model and generic model. Superior entrepreneurs got higher ranking on 4 competences : (1)dream and vision, (2)innovation, (3)self-motivation, (4)searching opportunity, which constitude the superior model. The generic model incorporates 23 competences which superior and generic entrepreneurs shared. The 23 competences can be divided into 4 clusters: (1)opportunity and strategy, (2)achivement and action, (3)influencing, (4)developing and managing. Of them, the 3clusters--opportunity and strategy, influencing, developing and managing, have agreat deal with entrepreneurs' key tasks, and the other cluster achivement and action involves entrepreneurs' deep motivation. The the model on how competences influence the performance was put forward. Finally, the characteristics of some demographic variables were discussed.
