The Quantitative Evaluation Of Sustainable Development Of Agricultural System In Wuyuan Oasis

The sustainable development is a lasting action that aims at pushing the mankind to get along harmoniously with nature and benefiting future generations, thus it is the common mission for the whole mankind to realize sustainable development. The sustainable development it closely related to agricultural production and development from the moment it was breed to its formal establishment. The agriculture is the foundation of national economy, and it is also the material base that humans must live on for the development. After carrying out the reform and opening-up policy, we have established the remarkable achievement in agriculture. Because human being hasn't make good use of materials and resources, we encounter a series of problems, such as the degeneration of the land, the worsening of ecological environment, the lower level of agricultural production forces and the slow pace of agricultural development. It is important to take the policy of the sustainable development in order to coordinate the relationship between the agriculture and the resources, the environment and the social development. This thesis examines the compound system of Oasis recourses, ecology, economy and society of Wuyuan County which belongs to Hetao irrigations area. It aims at offering certain theoretical guidance for using the natural resources effectively and reasonably and Accelerating coordinated development of the Oasis agriculture. The thesis divides into five parts altogether.The first part introduces the research background of this study and describes briefly a series of problem on study of sustainable development of agriculture in domestic and abroad, such as present situation, the existence question, the focus and hot problem. Based on this foundation, the first part expounds the purpose and significance of the study.The second part analyzes the current situation and problem about agricultural system of Wuyuan Oasis. Firstly, it sums up the natural environment and social economic situation in the Oasis. Secondly, it analyzes the present development on agriculture of Wuyuan Oasis from different perspective including agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery. Finally, problems which exist in this agricultural system were analyzed.The third part established the index system of evaluation about the sustainable development of Wuyuan Oasis agriculture by filtering the collective data based on PAC. This evaluation system refers to other index system of evaluation about the sustainable development of agriculture and combines the characteristics of local agriculture condition as well as data collection. Then the system of agricultural sustainable development during the year of 1996-2005 was analyzed and evaluated comprehensively. The results are as follow: the degree of the system sustainable development is gradually rising, that is from 0.181 to 0.442. Therefore, it belongs to the process from unsustainable development to the weak sustainable development. Economic subsystem is increasing stably and the extent of it is large. The sustainable developing degree is 0.507 and it belongs to basic sustainable development. The speed of increase in Social subsystem, ecological subsystem and source subsystem is slow and the extent is small. The sustainable development degree is 0.490, 0.400 and 0.384 separately. And the social subsystem surpasses slightly other two subsystems. Such result is caused by the different reasons, such as unreasonable industrial structure, the low degree of industrialization, the excessively population growth, limited resource and degraded ecological environment. Therefore it is a main task to adjust industrial structure, speed up the industrialization and coordinate the relationship among the population, the resources and the environment.According to the data analysis, the fourth part provides the suggestion and measure for the sustainable development of agriculture in Wuyuan Oasis.The last part gives the shortcoming of the study and raises the problem for the further research after summarizing the full thesis.
