Civil engineering is one of most important production activities that human act onthe natural entironment. In those activities, the progress of production and use ofmaterials, project design, project construction, building running, building demolishingand so on, must consume a mass of energy and produce a large number of offal. All thosewould bring the enormous influence on entironment. Therefore, as a support industry ofnational economy, civil engineering must be developed energetically to satisfy thedemand of economical and society development, simultaneously, it must pay greatattention to protect environment, conserve resources and carry out the sustainabledevelopmental strategy.Based on those reasons and correctly understanding the concept and connotation ofsustainable development, this paper discuss on the sustainable developmental strategy asfollowing:1. Sustainable development of civil engineering materialThe development actuality of civil engineering material is summarized, and it ispointed out that the ecology building materials would be the development direction ofcivil engineering material in the future. The characteristic and research significance ofthe ecology building materials are expounded. It is introduced that the research progressof ecology building materials, i. e., developing the ecology building materials fromusing high and new technology, using traditional technology and solid offal, and usingnew technology and solid offal. Moreover, it is introduced that the ecologicaldevelopment of steel and concrete, which is used widely in civil engineering, to providethe reference for selecting material reasonably in the progress of project design and construction.2. Sustainable development of design stage in civil engineeringFrom three aspects that the preliminary design phase, the definition phase and theconstruction documents design phase, the sustainable developmental strategies in thedesign stage are discussed. In the preliminary design phase, it is needed to act accordingto the construction task, conduct comprehensive investigation, harmonize all kinds offunction demand, make the project better in certain investment, make the most ofecology materials under the balance between supply and demand, realize all theenvironment and geological hydrology condition in the construction site, foresee thematter probably happening in the structure, equipment, the power, construction and so on,and finally decide the concrete scheme of project. In the definition phase, it is needed toharmonize the relation of each trade to create all the related documents of each tradewhich are needed by the project. In the construction documents design phase, the usingof new material and new study method bring that the standards fall behind the scienceand technology. So, it is need to carry on editing the standards, development optimizationdesign software and do the optimized design work positively, and make the projectachieving "security and economy" actually.3. Sustainable development of construction stage in civil engineeringIt is elaborated that the five principles in the sustainable development ofconstruction stage in civil engineering. Those are reducing the location disturbance andrespecting the base environment, constructing combining the climate, saving theresources or energies, reducing the environmental pollution, enhancing the environmentquality, implementing scientific management, and guarantee the construction quality.Based on those principles, the sustainable developmental present situations ofconstruction stage in our country are described, and how to boost the sustainabledevelopment of construction stage is proposed.4. Sustainable development of use and the demolishment stage in civilengineeringIt is discussed that the problems in the use and demolishment stage andcountermeasures how to settle those problems. The countermeasures are reducing the artificial energy consumption, enhancing the utilization ratio of resources, creating gooduse environment, facing positively to the structure corrosion phenomenon in natural,doing the health monitor work of structures completely, enhancing the structuremaintenance to prolong the life of structure, making complete demolishment plan,controlling the influence of demolishment on the environment, utilizing thedemolishment offal comprehensively and so on.All the discussion on the sustainable development of civil engineering are based onthe level of existing fundamental research and project application, and limited by theauthor's theory level, this paper only can put forward some concept opinion on thesustainable development of civil engineering. There must be many insufficiencies andmistakes which would be improved in future. Therefore, it is needed the thoroughresearch and application in the following work.
